About us

Who are we? - May 30, 2008

South Georgia Art is a website owned and managed by Flint River Gallery, LLC based in Albany, Georgia. We started in May, 2008, as a little experiment to see just how much we could build in just one hour per day. We hope to build a comprehensive resource for visual arts in South Georgia. We want to be THE place for artists and collectors to go when they seek to visual art information in South Georgia.

We want to strongly focus on a update event calendar, based on what's coming up next month. This way, we can quickly find something artsy to do each weekend; instead of spending an hour searching for art events close to home.

At heart, we believe in capitalism and a free economy. There are already several art websites sponsored by non-profit organizations, but none of them remain up to date nor are comprehensive. On the net, we found that each art organization was "competing" with each other in some way. South Georgia Art plans to rely on online advertising to cover expenses and motivate the webmaster to continue to spend one hour per day improving the site. We encourage you to stay with us, bookmark our site, and subscribe to our RSS feed or email news when it becomes available.

Why did I start this?

I am a frustrated artist, living in South Georgia, continually searching the Internet looking for various art events and opportunities. I bookmark South Georgia Art related websites, I enter event dates into my calendar. I barely keep up with it all. It seems each county has their own website listing clubs, museums, events for that region only. To find out what is REALLY going on, you have to visit so many different sites.

So wouldn't it be nice to have ONE website to go to for South Georgia Art, without having to sort through all the data in Metro Atlanta that I rarely participate in?

Yes, Virginia, there is Art outside of Atlanta. So here is my plan, spend an hour a day building this little empire of mine so that others like myself can enjoy it too. In the process, I hope to make enough money with ads and donations to justify my one hour of labor per day and cover my overhead for the adventure. I am choosing to call it an adventure instead of an enterprise.

Stay tuned for more, I will update this site frequently.
